We run a small sapphire shop on a simple idea: put the facts on paper. Carat, cut, colour, heat, origin, and a lab number you can check. Beauty is nice. A record is what makes a gem trustworthy.
Why we exist
The gem trade is full of pretty photos and thin details. A buyer who has never met you needs more than a nice caption. They need a lab report, clear heat notes, and a stone that matches what they asked for.
Most people who come looking for Pukhraj or Neelam already have a size in mind, often somewhere between three and seven carats. That is who we buy for. We do not try to sell tiny fashion stones that make no sense for that kind of wear.
Bangkok is where a lot of the world's sapphire cutting and heat work happens. We buy there, keep a short list, and sell loose stones only so your own jeweller can set them when the day is right.
Things we will not bend on
Loose, not set
Unset stones keep customs clean, avoid metal markups, and leave the setting date with your family and your goldsmith.
A lab report when it matters
Above $400, a laboratory report ships with the stone. You should not need a long relationship with us to feel safe.
Treatment up front
Heat is listed first. Origin is marked as supplier stated or lab confirmed. We never claim unheated without proof, and we never call Thai material Ceylon.
Duty paid shipping
Where we ship, we plan for duties so the box does not arrive with a surprise customs bill.
No miracle claims
We may say a stone is traditionally called Pukhraj or Neelam. We never promise results from wearing it.
No ruby for now
Ruby origin is messy and high risk for a careful small shop. We stick to sapphire and the occasional fine pink spinel.
The name
Zar and Qalam
Zar means gold. Qalam means the pen, the written word.
We like stones that look good, and we like them even more when the details are written down. That is the whole shop in one sentence.
